How do we do it?
Firstly, we have borderline Obsessive Compulsive Disorder when it comes to making things better. Also...
- We have a relentless focus on innovation – both revolutionary and evolutionary
- We do much more of our planning and preparation off-site.
- We control or influence as much as we can.
We give you a great finish in an amazingly short time frame through a relentless focus on Innovation.
Revolutionary Innovation.
Strong relationships with firms in both commercial and residential construction across Northern Europe give us access to the latest innovations. There are many innovations in these fields that improve quality and speed. Two great examples of this are spray plastering and spray painting.
Practically unknown in residential building in the UK, spray plaster is used increasingly in commercial sectors in the UK and in Sweden and Germany where speed and finish qualities have clear, bottom line implications.
When considering larger residential projects, spray plastering is superior to traditional plastering because:
It’s faster – taking only 2-3 days to plaster a house instead of 2 weeks with traditional methods.
It’s more stable and consistent. You hardly ever get any cracking with spray plastering primarily because it is only 3% water compared to nearly 20% with normal plaster.
It’s cleaner - there is no on-site mixing and nothing drops on the floor and the walls. And spray plastered walls do not need sanding and wiping down before painting giving you a better finish.
It's safer - Spray plaster that is more than 3mm thick conforms to Class 1 and class 0 fire retardant standards.
Spray painting offers similar benefits in terms of time and finish. If your house can be empty and you want a limited number of colours, then you really don't want to be considering anything else. We recently prepped and sprayed a 4500ft2 house in less than a week. So not only is it faster, but the finish is better than using rollers. If done well, it is so smooth that it looks as if someone has simply turned the walls white.
If these are so good, why aren’t they used more often?
Well there are higher contractor costs, most significantly, capital costs. A good spray plaster machine can easily cost £10000 whereas £100 could give you your tools for traditional plastering. And these costs fall to the contractor -unlike the cost of any time delays which fall to the client. So the contractor has to make a change that mostly benefits someone else at least in the short term – the client.
And then there is simple inertia. As with any innovations, the first reason why people don’t use a new method is that they are already doing something else that seems to work for them. Almost any change, however positive, requires a period of short term pain and adjustment. Most people, quite reasonably, want to minimise pain and so avoid making changes that benefit everyone in the long term.
Evolutionary Innovation.
We also apply lean manufacturing principles to our business (the techniques employed first by the Toyota Car company to make the most efficient factory in the world). This is where we examine every step of our processes to see how we can improve it. We conduct a review after every project to see how we can improve next time and adjust our processes accordingly. We encourage suppliers and partners to take part in these discussions to increase the chance of further improvements.
We minimise on site time and disruption by doing most of our planning and preparation off-site.
Obviously, most firms do a significant amount of planning and preparation off site. However, we actively look to do as much construction off site as we can so that we minimise time on site. For example, when it comes to kitchen manufacture, if you have strong enough frames in your kitchen you can build cupboards off site and simply fit them in place when the old kitchen has been removed. This minimises site time and guarantees that you won't have a half finished kitchen due to missing parts.

We help you reduce costly changes by helping you get clear before we start.
Crucial to minimising build time is to first ensure the client is clear on what they want (down to the last detail). Because this can be extremely hard, we work with you to help you decide what you want and where you want it. The preparation stage can be the toughest time for you the client. There can be an amazing number of things to decide and it can drive you crazy!. But it is worth the effort and we are here to help you with that.
So, this preparation means that we will be working on your project for much more than two weeks. What makes us different is our dissection of the building process so that we can minimise the time we spend on site – time relevant to you.
We give you peace of mind by controlling and influence as much as we can.
A reliable supply chain. We have preferred suppliers for things like flooring and kitchens. They have been thoroughly checked and tested. Given the compressed time scales, we look to have everything with us at the start of the build so there are no delays caused by missing materials. And we carry a larger inventory of consumables than most firms so our teams, once on site, shouldn’t need to “pop out” to get things they have forgotten.

Control of the site.
Another thing we strive to control is the site – i.e. your home. If you want the job to be done in the fastest possible time then you really need to give us an empty house (we can help you empty you house if you want us to). This can be quite a challenge so if you have yet to move into the property or of your tenants have yet to, then this would be a great time to call us in. We appreciate it may cause some inconvenience but we promise it will be worth it in the end.
